Nancy’s Under The Steps

One of my first artistic inspiration was a simplicity of a snowflake. William Morris used nature for his textiles and wall coverings and recognized the calming affect of its balance. I am a fabric applique artist who years ago coin the phrase “Creating Memories Using Fabrics Scissors And Thread” I constantly utilize batiks, hand-dyed, gradated fabrics to create depths, shading and angles to each piece.

Being a fourth year Roycroft Renaissance Artisan in fiber fabric division I constantly strive to do my best work in each piece. The more complicated and intriguing the design I am immediately drawn to it as a new challenge. The artist is located in a small college community in Pennsylvania. Her shop is located in the oldest continuously running Market House in the entire state of Pennsylvania.

Roycroft Signature Piece

After meeting William Morris, Elbert Hubbard founded Roycroft in 1895. They were very upset with the industrial revolution and poor quality of workmanship he brought together master artisans into East Aurora, NY. This piece I appliqued has hundreds of individual pieces of fabric ironed and stitched around.

Size of the art work is 18 inches by 22 inches.

Front Cover (Love is Enough)

1873 William Morris wrote the book ” Love is Enough”. His daughter Mae Morris hand embroidered the cover in blue silk adorned with gold threads ,pearls and garnets. As a tribute and challenge the artist chose only William Morris fabric to reinterpret her exquisite handwork.

Spine (Love is Enough)

While peculiar to some, the artist recognizes the detail work of Moe Morris hand embroidery.

May Morris even created a beautiful design for the book spine.

Opus 40

This Building is located is located in Saugerties, (close to Woodstock) NY. Harvey Fite, an artist and professor, purchased a blue stone quarry and became a world -famous sculpture park . This picture is their home. The reflection in the pond utilized batiks to mimic the movement of water.

The interesting aspect of this piece while close up details appears -only when the viewer backs away even more shading appears. The artist chose to enhance this with a Will Pierce frame from Baltimore, Maryland. The framer used quarter sawn technique with inlaid stones.

Size of Art is 18 inches by 25 inches

Market House Meadville PA

In 2020, this beautiful building celebrated a 150th year in existence. It is the oldest continually running market house in the entire state of Pennsylvania .This building is where my studio/gallery is located.
